04 Jun 2020, 23:05 GMT+10

SHENZHEN, June 4 (Xinhua) -- An offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) station will be built in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, local authorities said.

According to the city's maritime safety administration, upon operation, the station is expected to churn out 230,000 tonnes of LNG a year with an annual output value of 1.2 billion yuan (about 168 million U.S. dollars) in the short term.

As investment increases in the long term, the station is expected to realize a replenishment scale of 2 million tonnes each year with an annual output value of 10 billion yuan.

It will help improve China's LNG filling service network and add impetus to the development of the energy industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as well as China's shipping industry.
